CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Staff Report Subiect: Resolution authorizing the Mayor of the City of San Bernardino or her designee to apply for and administer a grant in the amount of $225,000 from USDA for the administration of the Summer Food Service Program for Youth. Backeround: This federally funded program for youth under the age of 19 has been successfully operating since 1977. During the summer of2000, forty-three feeding sites were established at locations in and around the City of San Bernardino. Between June 26 and September I, 2000, a daily average of 1,633 lunches and 889 snacks were served for an estimated annual total of 73,500 lunches and 40,000 snacks. This program provided nutritional food to youth who may otherwise have been deprived. Meal preparation and delivery are contracted with the San Bernardino City Unified School District. Financial Impact: This program is fully funded from the USDA Grant and no general funds are required. Additionally, approximately $7,200 in administrative costs are reimbursed to the city. This grant application will cover program operations beginning June 25 through August 31, 2001. Recommendation: This program provides an essential and much needed service to the residents of the City of San Bernardino. RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO OR HER DESIGNEE TO APPLY FOR AND ADMINISTER A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $225,000 FROM USDA FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM FOR YOUTH. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The Mayor of the City of San Bernardino or her designee is hereby authorized to apply for and administer on behalf of said City, a grant in the amount of $225.000 from USDA for the administration of the Summer Food Service Program for youth. SECTION 2.
