Council Notes: Agenda Item No. 7 75-0262 STAFF REPORT Plans for construction of a storm drain in Meyers Road, from Little League to Meyers Creek, were originally prepared by a Consultant working for the San Bernardino City Unified School District. These plans and specifications were submitted to the City to accomplish construction of the master plan storm drain, in order to protect the North Verdemont Elementary School site. On December 19, 1989, the City and the San Bernardino City Unified School District entered into an agreement, the terms of which provide that the School District shall pay for the construction of the storm drain and be reimbursed by the City over a period of 5 years. The payback is to be made in five equal installments and without interest. The storm drain is part of the City I S master plan of drains but was a condition upon the school site at Little League and Meyers Road to protect the site from flooding. The School District, through the State, has already paid twice their full share of the storm drain fee that the City collects from all development. This drain is not part of the Verdemont Infra- structure Fee. Plans, specifications, easements and processing for Fish and Game Permits and Corps of Engineers permits is under way by City Staff. The plans and specifications are available for review in the office of the Director of Public Works/City Engineer. Listed below is the total estimated project cost: Construction Contract Design & Inspection (W.O. #1882) Sub-Total Contingencies (l5%)t TOTAL ESTIMATED PROJECT COST $185,000.00 21,500.00 $206,500.00 31,500.00 $238.000.00 An account No. 248-368-57874 has been established for this work. The School District will advance 25% of the contract amount upon award of the construction contract and will pay progress billings to the City on a monthly basis for the full amount of the work. The first installment of the payback will be due one year from the date of project completion and each year thereafter for the next four years. It is estimated that the City will need to fund $47,600 per year for this project from the Storm Drain Construction Fund for five years, beginning in the 1991/92 fiscal year. Staff recommends approval of the plans and specifica- tions and authorization for the Director of Public Works/City Engineer to begin advertising. 12-17-90 75.0264
