CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
NAMING OF NEW PARK TO VETERANS PARK
In recognition and in honor of the Veterans who have served our Country, in
particular those Veterans who reside in the City of San Bernardino, and in honor
of their commitment to freedom throughout the world, it would be appropriate to
name this new park in their honor.
It is recommended that the new park, located in the University District, east of
Campus Parkway, south of Northpark Blvd., be named Veterans Park.

Mayor and Common Council,
Wednesday, June 6, 2007, I met with 5th Ward Councilman Chas Kelley to
discuss tentative plans for new parks in his ward. We drove around the 5th ward
and viewed all the existing parks in the area as well as the proposed site for a
Ronald Reagan Park. At one particular site, Mr. Kelley stopped and spoke with
me about his desire to dedicate it in honor of Veterans and name it Veteran's
Park.
I myself am a veteran ('65 - '67) and the founder of Sa/ute to the Route, which
hosts a ceremony on Veterans Day of each year to honor our men and women past
and present who have served our country.
Because of this, I wholeheartedly support Mr. Kelley in this endeavor and
encourage the Mayor and Council to do the same.
Respectfully,
o~~
Danny Flores

FLAG DAY
Honorable Mayor and Common Council,
I recently had a discussion with Councilman Chas
Kelley concerning a Veterans Park in the City of
San Bernardino. I who1ehartea1y support this
wonderful way to honor past, present and future
Veterans.
I was born and raised in Germany during the Second
World War and had the privilege to come to the USA,
with my father, on 23 October 1949, I was twelve at
the time. You can not imagine how many times I
THANK US Soldiers of WWII for getting rid of Hitler
and giving us a chance to come to America. In fact,
my wife and I are planning a trip to Normandy to THANK
and pay RESPECT to those Heroes who liberated us and
gave their lives in doing so.
Being a Veteran of 26 years and 13 days'as a United
States Marine, I believe Mr. Ke11ey's thoughts on a
Veterans Park show a high regard of patriotism to
the Veterans of the City of San Bernardino and all
those who pass through. I strongly urge favorable
consideration on the Councils part.
Thank you,
\J
