Staff Report
Subiect:
Resolution awarding contract to David T. Wasden, Inc. for repair of failed box culverts at
various locations per Plan No. 10131.
Backl!round:
The Departments of Public Services and Development Services have identified a number of
box culverts that convey storm water under street intersections, which have failed due to aging,
and traffic load over the culverts. This failure caused the culverts to clog up during recent
rainstorms.
Plans and specifications for this project are complete and it is ready to be awarded. This
project consists of removing and replacing existing concrete deck of the box culverts in the
street and parkway.
The estimated project costs are as follows.
Construction Estimate $25,580.00
Continl!encies 3,920.00
Design, Inspection and Contract Administration 3,900.00
TOTAL $33,400.00
This project was advertised locally; the following companies responded (successful bidder is in
bold type).

Financial Imnact:
Funding for this project in the amount of $100,000 was approved in the FY 2000/01 CIP
Storm Drain Construction Fund and all costs incurred will be charged to Account No. 248-
368-5504-7166 (Repair failed box culverts citywide). The remaining funds will be carried
over for the next phases.
Recommendation:
That the Mayor and Common Council adopt the Resolution awarding a contract to David T.
Wasden, Inc. for repair of failed box culverts at various locations.

RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN
BERNARDINO AWARDING A CONTRACT TO DAVID T. WASDEN, INC. FOR
REPAIR OF FAILED BOX CULVERTS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS PER PLAN NO.
10131.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. David T. Wasden, Inc. is the lowest responsible bidder for repair of
failed box culverts at various locations per Plan No. lOBI. A contract is awarded
accordingly to said bidder in a total amount of $25,580.00, with a contingency amount of
$3,920.00, but such award shall be effective only upon being fully executed by both parties.
All other bids, therefore, are hereby rejected. The Mayor is hereby authorized and directed
to execute said contract on behalf of the City; a copy of the contract is on file in the office of
the City Clerk and incorporated herein by reference as fully as though set forth at length.
SECTION 2. This contract and any amendment or modifications thereto shall not take
effect or become operative until fully signed and executed by the parties and no party shall be
obligated hereunder until the time of such full execution. No oral agreements, amendments,
modifications or waivers are intended or authorized and shall not be implied from any act or
course of conduct of any party.
SECTION 3. This resolution is rescinded if the parties to the contract fail to execute
it within sixty (60) days of the passage of the resolution.
