Pursuant to your request, I have researched the project status and have the following information:
I) This project is part of a five-bridge seismic repair and barrier replacement project affecting
CALTRANS and BNSF facilities.
2) The limited repairs completed were accomplished by the Public Services Department (they
were reluctant to do more due to the risk to motorists on the freeway below and associated
liabilities.
3) The project was designed last spring and bid last summer.
4) The contract was awarded to Dalaj International Corporation on July IS, 2002.
5) Dalaj International has been processing permits with both CALTRANS and BNSF. They
received a permit from CALTRANS for the work in their right-of-way (27th St. Barrier Rail
Replacement) on November 12, 2002 and should receive a permit from BNSF immediately
after the Christmas Shopping Season.
6) Consequently, the project is scheduled to begin January 6, 2003.
7) The 27th Street Bridge Rail Replacement Project is funded through the use of local Measure I
funding.
Should YOll have any additional questions, please let me know.
