HomeMy WebLinkAbout10565RESOLUTION NO. 10565 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO REQUESTING THE RETENTION OF INTERSTATE ROUTE 15 ON THE PRESENT ALIGNMENT DESIGNATED BY THE FEDERAL HIGHWAy ADMINISTRA:- TOR, BETWEEN TEMECULA, CALIFORNIA AND THE DEVORE AREA. WHEREAS, vigorous opposition to construction of Highway Route 81 has been expressed from persons all along the route that will be affected by this facility; and, WHEREAS, the present alignment of Interstate Route 15, between Temecula, California, and the Devore area satisfies the criteria for location of an interstate free- way to a greater extent than any alternate route proposed; and WHEREAS, several sections of the present Interstate Route 15 are extremely deficient and in need of immediate improvement; and WHEREAS, severe sociological and economic problems exist along the present route as a direct result from the inadequate ramps; and WHEREAS, eligibility for expenditure of Federal Funds for improving the existing alignment would be preserved by retaining the Interstate Route 15 as presently designated; and WHEREAS, the existing route serves a greater number of people than any other proposed alignment within the In terstate 15 corridor and WHEREAS, the creation of an Interstate Loop, by designating the existing route as Interstate 15 East and State Highway Routes 31-71 as Interstate 15 West, is not possible since Congress has not authorized the additional mileage to the Interstate System. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERN A RDlNO , AS FOLLOWS: SECTION ONE: Interstate Route 15 be retained on the present alignment between Temecula, California and the Devore Area.
