The concert will be presented on Friday, January 26, 2007. Students will be bussed from their schools to the concert, and then bussed back to their schools after the conclusion of the concert. In addition to the performance, the students will be treated to a pre-concert talk by Maestro Carlo Ponti, Jr. to explain both the music to be performed and the workings of a symphonic orchestra. The concert will be an additional performance of one of the Symphony's "season" concerts. The music to be performed will be classical selections included in the Disney film Fantasia, specifically: Tchaikovsky: Excerpts from the Nutcracker Suite Dukas: Excerpts from The Sorcerer's Apprentice Beethoven: Excerpts from the Pastoral Symphony Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue The goal of this concert is to allow students the opportunity, without cost, to attend and hear a professional symphonic performance, as well as to learn more about symphonic music from Maestro Carlo Ponti, Jr. This will be the first time many of these children will be exposed to this level of cultural arts. This type of grant will help the City serve the youth of our City by sponsoring a large program of indisputable artistic merit and broad reach accompanied by some basic education from our Maestro.
