Staff Report
SUBJECT:
Authorization to Proceed and Plan Approval- proposed vacation of a portion of loth Street from
Montgomery Street, west to "J" Street and Plan No. 10468.
BACKGROUND:
On February 8, 2002, a request was received by this office to vacate a portion of the south side of
loth Street, from Montgomery Street, west to "J" Street. The request came from a representative
of the San Bernardino City Unified School District ("The School District"). The School District
is proposing to relocate and replace an existing 6-foot fence with an 8-foot Western-style slat
fence that would also improve the appearance of this part of loth Street. The School District is
also proposing to install a standard concrete sidewalk along the south side of loth Street from
Montgomery Street, west to "J" Street, creating a new walkway for pedestrian traffic. The
proposed vacation includes an area between the sidewalk and the new fence, to be used as a
landscape area that would be installed and maintained by The School District.
The general location of this proposed vacation is shown on the Vicinity Map, and details are
shown on Plan No. 10468. Applicant has paid the first half of the processing fee and will pay the
remainder prior to the legal proceedings. If authorization to proceed is given, all affected City
departments and utility companies will be contacted for the existence of any facilities or
conflicts. Any requests for reservation of easements will be reserved in the Resolution of
Intention and the Resolution Ordering Vacation, which will be submitted at a later date.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Applicant has paid the first half of the $1,000 processing fee and will pay the remainder prior to
the legal proceedings.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that authorization to proceed with the proposed vacation be granted, that Plan
No. 10468 be approved.
