"by updating information codifying prior Council action. On April 22, 2002, Personnel Committee recommended for approval. Recommended Motion: 1. Increase the salary for the Summer Lunch Monitor position from the hourly rate of $7.00 per hour to $8.00 per hour. 2. L Council Notes: .s/fdJO~ Agenda Item No. J..9 r CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO -REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT SUBJECT Salary increase for the Summer Lunch Monitor position in the Parks, Recreation & Conununity Services Department from the hourly rate of$7.00 per hour to $8.00 per hour. BACKGROUND The Summer Lunch Monitor position in the Parks, Recreation & Conununity Services Department is grant-funded. The position is filled during the summer months as part of the Summer Lunch Program that provides meals to qualified children. The position has historically been equal in pay to the Senior Recreation Leader position. When salary increases for part-time positions were approved by the Mayor and Conunon Council in January 2002, the Senior Recreation Leader was given a salary increase to $8.00 per hour. Because the Summer Lunch Monitor position was vacant at the time of these salary increases, the salary was not increased to the rate equivalent to the Senior Recreation Leader position. The Department will be hiring six (6) Summer Lunch Monitors for the summer program. Each position works up to six (6) hours per day for no more than 50 days. After the program is complete, each employee is terminated from City employment. FINANCIAL IMPACT The salary increase cost for the six (6) Summer Lunch Monitor employees will be as follows: 6 Summer Lunch Monitor employees @ $1.OO/hour increase $1.OO/hour for 6 employees x 6 hours/day $36.00/day for 6 employees x 50 days of employment Total Increased Cost for 6 Summer Lunch Monitors: $1,800 Benefits (1.45% Medicare and .25% unemployment) 31 $1,831 The total increased cost of $1,831 reflects the increased cost to the Department, which will be absorbed through Summer Lunch Program grant funds. RECOMMENDATION 1. Increase the salary for the Summer Lunch Monitor position from the hourly rate of $7.00 per hour to $8.00 per hour. 2. Direct the Human Resources Department to update Resolution 6413, Section Thirteen, to reflect this particular action. REPRR<;;ENT ATIVE DUTIES Provides co1irteous and expeditious customer service to the general public and City department staffs. Provides technical assistance and training to feeding sites as needed; maintains daily site reports on each site; conducts site visits to ensure that program regulations are being adhered to. Routinely adheres to and maintains a positive attitude towards City and Department goals; and, performs related duties as required. MINIMUM OUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Must be 18 years of age or older. Possession of a valid Class "CO California Driver's license is required. Must provide their own vehicle and proof of valid California car insurance. For out-of-state applicants, a valid driver's license is required. A valid Class "CO California Driver's license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (CA Vehicle Code 12405c). GENERAL OUALIFICATIONS Knowledee of: Basic principles and procedures of record keeping. Ability to: Exhibit normal range of body motion; Read, understand and interpret summer lunch program regulations; Read and follow area maps; Organize work load and follow a schedule; Follow oral and written instructions; Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices; Traverse uneven terrain in the course of work; lof2 I ~q1t- Transport materials and supplies weighing up to 10 pounds; See in the normal visual range with or without correction; Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction; Work indoors and out in a variety of environmental conditions.
