10-07-96 Plans approved and authorization granted to advertise
for bids.
12-16-96 Resolution No. 96-371 adopted awarding a contract for
low bid price of $59,350.00.
Recommended motion:
That Change Order No. 1 to the contract with Moody Construction for
the installation of a handicap raMp and restrooM renodel for the
Council ChaMbers, in accordance with Plan No. 9568, be approved; to
authorize the Contractor to perforM extra work consisting of the
installation of a floor system to elininate the well between the
Council platforM and the general seating in the Council Chambers, on
a time and naterial basis, at a total additiona1" cost not to exceed
$9,600.00, for an increase in the contract price from $59,350.00 to
$68,950.00. cA ~.

CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
The plans for remodeling the Council Chambers to meet
handicap accessibility requirements direct the construction of a
ramp along the north side. A ramp would also be constructed to
provide handicap access to the depressed area between the theatre
seating and the Council dias.
The plans show the two steps leading to this depressed
area as being 6 inches in height, while they actually are 7
inches. This difference would necessitate extension of the ramp
to provide access to this area, which would severely restrict the
use of this area.
It is very likely that the depressed area will have to be
eliminated at some time in the future in order to gain compliance
with more stringent standards for handicap access.
In view of these considerations, it was decided that it
would be advisable to fill in the depressed area at this time.
Filling in this area will require removal of the first two rows
of theater seats. This area can be used for handicap seating, or
chairs could be placed during those times when supplemental
seating is needed.
The Contractor was directed to proceed on a time and
material basis, in accordance with Section 3 of the Standard
Specifications for Public Works Construction, not to exceed
$9,600.00.
The total estimated project cost included an amount of
$9,650.00 for contingencies, which can be used to finance the
additional cost authorized by Change Order No. One.
We recommend that Change Order No. One be approved.
