STAFF REPORT
Plans are presently being prepared for the rehabilitation
of the pavenent and installation of a storm drain system for
Tippecanoe Avenue, from Route 1-10 to Hospitality Lane. Two (2)
catch basins will be installed at the intersection of Tippecanoe
Avenue and Laurelwood Drive, as a part of this drainage system.
It has been deternined that installation of the two catch
basins at Laurelwood Avenue, and 100' of storm drain, could be
done in a more cost effective Manner under the current contract,
since construction is being done at this location.
There is an existing storm drain across Tippecanoe
Avenue, just north of Route 1-10. During plan review, in appli-
cation for an encroachment permit, Cal trans personnel directed
that this storm drain be abandoned. However, after construction
was started, Cal trans' inspector directed that it be retained.
Various items of additional work will be required in order to
keep this drain in service and incorporate it into the new
improvements.
Removal of the existing improvements revealed several
electrical and traffic signal conduits that were in conflict with
the new improvements. These conduits are:
1. A Southern California Edison conduit was found to be in
conflict with the relocated Caltrans sign. This conduit was
relocated by the Contractor, in order to avoid delaying the
project. All costs incurred for relocation of this conduit
will be billed to Edison.
2.
The existing traffic

1-10 and
several
3. A Caltrans conduit, that provided electrical service to the
bridge soffit lights and sign lighting, was found to be in
conflict with the new improvements, and had to be relocated.
All of these items of additional work will be done on a
tine and materials basis, in accordance with Section 3-3 of the
Standard Specifications, at an estimated cost of $41,000.
The total estimated project cost, based upon the actual
low bid price, contained an amount of $51,080.55 for contingen-
cies, which can be used to finance the cost for this extra work.
