CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
NAMING OF NEW PARK IN HONOR OF JACK REILLY
Mr. Jack Reilly served three terms on the City Council from 1981 to 1993 and
served as Planning Director for the City of San Bernardino for 17 years, from
1961-1978. Further, Jack used his planning skills and drawing talent on
numerous community-oriented projects on a voluntary basis, including the
History Tree and Walk Project, the Perris Hill Park Improvement Project, and the
recent Downtown Plan Concept and Education Park.
Former Councilman Jack Reilly has a long record of significant and selfless
public service, especially when viewed within the context of his honesty and
integrity. Jack's public service, ability, dedication and character make him the
ideal role model for the youth of our City to look to in their quest to become good
citizens.
It is recommended that the new park, located at the corner of Norma Lane and
Stephanie Avenue, be named in honor of Jack Reilly.

RE: Park Naming—Jack Reilly
Dear Councilman Kelley:
This letter conveys my absolute and unqualified support of your proposal to name a park after
former Councilman Jack Reilly. Jack has devoted nearly his entire adult life to serving the people of
the City of San Bernardino.
The honor you propose is well deserved based on Jack's long record of significant and selfless public
service, especially when viewed within the context of his honesty and integrity. Jack's public
service, ability, dedication and character make him the ideal role model for the youth of our
community to look to in their quest to become good citizens.
• Employed by the City of San Bernardino for 24 years. Serving as Planning Director from 1961
to 1978.
• Served three terms on the City Council from 1981 to 1993.
■ Member of the Grand Jury of the County of San Bernardino.
• Jack has used his planning skills and drawing talent on numerous community-oriented projects
on a voluntary basis, including the History Tree and Walk Project, the Perris Hill Park
Improvement Project, and the recent Downtown Plan Concept and Education Park.
• World War II combat veteran with the United States 8th Air Force.
I had the privilege to work for Jack at the city for a number of years, and since to work with him on
many community projects. When all is said and done perhaps the best testimony I can give is that
Jack is the essence of a good man, well respected, and well loved by all who know him. You could
not make a better choice for this honor.
Respectfully,
