CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Staff Report
Subject:
Resolution of the Mayor and Common Council authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement
between the City of San Bernardino and the Public Safety Academy for use of the Norton
Recreation Center Gymnasium for the period of January I, 2007 through December 31, 2007 and
ratifying all action taken between January 1,2007 and the approval of the resolution.
Background:
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is proposing to enter into an
agreement with the Public Safety Academy for use of the Norton Recreation Center Gymnasium
during inclement weather. The Public Safety Academy is a San Bernardino City Schools Public
Charter School, founded in the year 2000. The purpose of the Public Safety Academy is to
provide students with a quality high school education with an emphasis on preparation for
careers in law enforcement, fire service, and other public safety industries. Their campus is
located at the San Bernardino International Airport.
The Academy's proximity to the Norton Recreation Center Gymnasium makes it an ideal
location in which to foster the physical education portion of the Academy's curriculum. The
agreement includes the Academy's use of the Center's gym, lobby, restrooms, and foyer area,
Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to II :00 a.m. In return for use of the Gymnasium, the
group will provide regular maintenance of the interior and grounds of the Norton Recreation
Center.
Financial Impact:
None.
Recommendation:
Adopt Resolution.
