DescriPtion) CiViC/promotion fund Finance: Council Notes: 75-0262 sjlJ!91 Agenda Item No.JJ STAFF REPORT Attached is a letter. from Western Region Little League Baseball requesting financial assistance from the City in the amount of $5,000 from civic and promotion funding to support their State Play Offs scheduled for August 6 through August 14, 1997. The Ways and Means Committee was polled and recommended approval of the request. This year's indirect departmental costs connected with assistance for the event as stated in the attached Request for Funding Assistance are not immediately known but are being clarified by the departments and will be funded by the City in an amount not to exceed $13,000 from the civic and promotion fund. In the past years, we have greatly appreciated the financial support from the San Bernardino City Council, helping to defray the cost of the tournament activities, for which I am again respectfully requesting a $5,000 grant for 1997. Team Transportation (to and from the airport-various arrival times). Get acquainted Picnic, (Tuesday evening August 5, 1997, feeding approximately 600 guests), opening ceremonies, meals for teams and volunteers for the nine day event. Mayor Minor, I believe that from the many accolades received from visitors to the Regional Tournament this event is one of the top sporting events in the Inland Empire. We again anticipate a crowd of 50 to 60 thousand spectators from throughout the l3 Western States. Again thank you for the outstanding support we have received in the past and that you will look favorably on this request.. Also, we hope that you and your wife, Virginia, will honor us with your presence at some of the activities on the enclosed schedule of events.
