. CITY OF SAN BERNAWINO - REQUEST FO,COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
The Social Security Administration lease on the building at 4th and E
Streets is due to expire in 1994. Social Security went to bid for office
space in the Hospitality Lane and Highland Avenue areas. No consideration
was given to the Downtown even though policy states that federal office
buildings be located in central business centers.
A committee of downtown interests and businesses is actively pursuing
the possibility of reconsideration for a downtown location. While the
selection process for moving the SSA office to Hospitality Lane is well
on its way, this citizen's committee may initiate ligation to stop the
move.
A concerted effort to retain the SSA office downtown by all government and
business interests is crucial at this time.
