BACKGROUND The Code Compliance Department currently has four Administrative Clerk II and one Administrative Clerk III. These clerical employees assist the Code Compliance Officers with preparing reports, answering phones, and assisting at the counter. In recent months, the incumbent has attended Hearing Officer meetings to transcribe and later edit the minutes of the meetings, maintained files, prepared reports and statistics in relation to the Hearing Officer meetings, and has prepared agendas and notices for the Board of Building Commissioners. In addition, the incumbent assists the Director of Code Compliance with various issues that are associated with a higher level clerical position. The position is also required to provide lead supervision in the absence of the Administrative Operations Supervisor. Given the advanced duties that have been assigned to the Administrative Clerk III as described above, the Department is requesting a reclassification to Secretary. The reclassification to Secretary better reflects the ways in which the incumbent provides secretarial services to the Director and other management staff and the higher level tasks that are assigned. FINANCIAL IMPACT Current Administrative Clerk III, Range 1321, $2,201-$2,675: Salary = $27,700 Benefits = 6.100 TOTAL $33,800 Reclassification Secretary, Range 1341, $2,432-$2,956: Step 1, $2,432 x 6 months = $14,600 Step 2, $2,553 x 6 months = 15.300 Sub-total $29,900 Benefits 6.300 TOTAL $36,200 The increase of $2,400 will be offset by salary savings the Department has realized during FY 02/03. RECOMMENDATION 1. Reclassify the Administrative Clerk III, Range 1321, $2,201-$2,675 to Secretary, Range 1341, $2,432-$2,956 in the Code Compliance Department. 2. To direct the Human Resources Department to update Resolution 6413, Section Ten to reflect this particular action.
