CITY OF SAN BERNQRDINO - REQUEST P:)R COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
On October 6, 1990, the Mayor and Common Council adopted
Ordinances Nos. MC-743 and MC-744 which, among other things,
changed the business license fee for barbershops, manicurists,
shampooing and hairdressing salons from a flat annual fee to a
percentage of gross receipts. Representatives of the industry
appeared before the Mayor and Council expressing concern about
both the significant increase and the change from flat fee to
percentage. The matter was referred to the Ways and Means
Committee and at the Committee Meeting of November 13, 1990, the
Committee decided to recommend that they be treated the same as
retail food merchants.
The attached ordinance would impose a fee on such businesses
at the same rate as that imposed on retail food merchants.
