SAN BERNARDINOO RE~EST FOR COUNCIL (jTION STAFF REPORT Page 1 of 2 During the first stages of construction, the Contractor discovered two errors in the construction drawings prepared by the Consulting Engineer. One was a one-half foot error in the elevation differ- ence between the third floor of the City Hall Annex (Thrifty Building) and the Five-Level Parking Structure. The plans do not reflect the survey measurements provided by the City. As a result, the pedestrian ramp must be extended by eleven feet, in order to comply with the State of California I s Title 24 re- quirements for handicap access. The cost to perform this extra work is $4,576.11. The second problem was the result of the Consultant using the structural framing plan from the second floor of the City Hall Annex rather than the third floor. Therefore, the project drawings did not include the stiffener plates necessary to increase the load carrying capacity of the existing steel beam to handle the additional load imposed by the pedestrian bridge. The cost to add the beam stiffener is $2,730.42. Due to the changes to the ramp and the structure, the structural steel shop drawings, the rebar shop drawings, the handrail shop drawings and the beam stiffener plate shop drawings must be revised. The cost to revise the shop drawings by the Subcontractor is $1,767.15. During the drilling of the bridge caissons, an unmarked 3" irrigation line was encountered. The Contractor removed the interfering portion of the line and capped off the remaining line. The cost to perform this work was $277.00. Change Order No. One authorizes the Contractor to lengthen the pedestrian ramp an additional 11 feet, install stiffener plates to the existing beam within the Annex Building and revise the shop drawings. The removal of the irrigation line is also authorized. The total estimated cost of Change Order No. One is $9,350.68, which will increase the contract price from $116,000 to $125,350.68. An amount of $6,900 was included in the total estimated project cost for contingencies, which can be used to finance the cost for this extra work. The remainder of the cost for Contract Change Order No. One can be financed from the available balances for other items of renovation work to be financed from the total available amount of $600,000. 9-12-90 75-0264 , CITY CF SAN ..RNARDINCO R.CO.ST FOR COUNCIL ():TION STAFF REPORT Page 2 of 2 We have reviewed the prices quoted by the Contractor, and feel they are fair and reasonable for the work entailed. Therefore, we recommend that the extra work be approved.
