It is recommended to best implement the goals of the City
Administrator's Department, that the existing Deputy City
Administrator position be downgraded to Range 4488, $5058
$6149/mo. (from Range 4510, $5645 -$6861/mo.) It is also
recommended that the title be changed to Assistant City
Administrator. six of the 10 cities surveyed utilized the
title Assistant City Manager/Assistant City Administrator as
the second in command for the City Manager/city
Administrator's Department, whereas only 2 of the 10 cities
utilized a "Deputy" title. The salary savings for the
downgrade of the Deputy City Administrator to the Assistant
City Administrator for fiscal 1990-91 is $13,600 per year
including 18% for variable fringe benefits.
Part of this reorganization would also entail upgrading the
Assistant to the city Administrator to Assistant city Admini-
strator with the same salary as recommended above, Range
4488, $5058 - $6149, (from Range 4406, $3360 -$4083). The
costs for the upgrade of the second Assistant City
Administrator position for fiscal 1990-91 is approximately
$14,400.
In order to eliminate the impact on the department's budget
it is recommended that the incumbent filling the Assistant to
the city Administrator position be upgraded effective
September 1990, and the other Assistant City Administrator
position not be filled until November 1990.
Council Personnel committee approved this request on August
9, 1990 and recommend full council approval to establish 2
positions of Assistant City Administrator at Range 4488,
$5058 $6149, and to delete 1 position of Deputy City
Administrator - Administrative Services and 1 position of
Assistant to the City Administrator.
