CITY OF SAN BERhRDINO - REQUEST FuR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
On March 23, 1990, the Public WorksjEngineering Department submitted
a proposal for financial assistance for the purchase am installa-
tion of City street signs on major streets located in 1= am
noderate i.nc:x:me neighborhoods.
~ing the =nth of December, 1989, the Mayor am Can1Iron Council
approved the City blight abatement program 1Nhich concentrated on the
rerroval of trash throughout the City, established a property main-
tenance starrlards ordinance am approved fun::ling for the clean-up
for Christmas Program. One major concern identified during the
iltplementation of these programs was the inability to identify am
adequately locate city streets. Many streets either did not have
city street signs or the signs were in poor condition. '!he ability
of police am fire personnel (particularly new recruits) to quickly
respond to the citizens of the City require proper am visible
street signs.
On May 3, 1990, the ccmmmity Deve10pnent citizen lldvisory committee
recarnmended approval of fun::ling to the Mayor am Can1ltrm Council for
Fhase I of the City street sign Pl:'-":JLCUll in the amount of $50,000.
