10-16-89 Resolution No. 89-414 adopted, awarding a contract for
the low bid price of $244,404.77.
Recommended motion:
1. That Change Order No. TWO, to the contract for the construction
of a Drainage Culvert on 48th Street at Devil's Canyon
Diversion Channel, in accordance with Plan No. 7443, be
approved, increasing the contract price by $7,717.99, from
$248,079.77 to $255,797.76.
2. That the work performed by the Contractor be approved
accepted; and that final payment authorized
expiration of the lien period.

STAFF REPORT
During construction, an underground concrete cut-off wall
was encountered, within the County Flood Control District's
right-of-way. The County had not revealed the existence of this
structure during review of the project plans. Removal of the
structure was required, in order to allow for construction of the
box culvert.
As the extent of the work could not be determined, the
Contractor removed the structure on a time and material basis, as
provided in Section 3-3, Extra Work, of the Standard Specifica-
tions, at an additional cost of $6,766.21. Additionally,
existing drains from the adjacent property were necessarily
extended under this new sidewalk, at an additional cost of
$451.78. Two County Flood Control cable barriers were also
relocated for a total net cost of $500.00.
We recommend that Change Order No. TWO be approved,
authorizing this extra work for a total increase in contract
price of $7,717.99, from $248,079.77 to $255,797.76. The total
estimated project cost contains sufficient contingencies to fund
the additional cost incurred for this change order.
All work was satisfactorily completed as of 2-26-90. The
contract was awarded for the low bid price of $244,404.77.
Change Order No. One was approved authorizing the Contractor to
install a catch basin and pipe at the intersection of Northpark
Boulevard and University Avenue. Change Order No. One increased
the contract price by $3,675.00, from $244,404.77 to $248,079.77.
Change Order No. Two will increase the contract price by
$7,717.99, to $255,797.76. The actual final contract price is
$255,676.06, due to a lesser amount of asphalt pavement being
installed than the estimated quantity in the bid documents.
We recommend that the work be approved and accepted, and
that final payment be authorized at the expiration of the lien
period.
