CITY OF SAN BERWARDINO - REQUEST rOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
The San
1966 Ford Custom
during that era.
by Mr. Mike Face.
Bernardino Police Reserve Unit has obtained a
4-door sedan, similar to the patrol units used
A black and white paint job has been donated
It is the Reserve Unit's intention to restore that
vehicle to resemble a patrol unit used in the 1960' s. The
vehicle will be used for show purposes of various conununity
functions, such as the National Orange Show, parades, crime
prevention activities, etc. It is their intention to mainly use
surplus or salvaged parts for the restoration work. Donations
from private individuals will be accepted. The name of donors
will be displayed on a poster whenever the vehicle is on dis-
play.
Estimated cost for fuel (40 gallons per month), oil,
service and minor repairs is $50.00 per month, which amounts to
$600.00 per year.
The Reserve Unit is requesting that authorization be
granted to accept this unit into the City's Fleet. Acceptance
into the fleet will enable the unit to be fueled, serviced and
minor repairs done at the Garage facility at City Yard. The
estimated cost for these items is $50.00 per month, with a
maximum of $600 per year. Restoration of the unit and major
repairs will be the responsibility of the Reserve Unit.
Liability for this restored patrol unit will be assumed
by the City, upon acceptance in the fleet. The Fire Department
has a restored old fire engine that has been accepted into the
fleet, and used for many of the activities.
The Police Department feels that restoring and showing
this unit will be a worthwhile project to increase interest and
improve morale in the Reserve Unit. They are supportive of this
program.
If the Mayor and Conunon Council concur with this
request, the form motion should be adopted to authorize the
Fleet Manager to accept this unit into the City's fleet and to
approve the expenditure of up to $600 per year for fuel, service
and minor repairs. The Fleet Manager has inspected this sedan
and found it to be a good candidate for restoration.
