I have reviewed the duties of the former incumbent and discussed the matter in some depth with Roger and concur with his recommen- dation. The salary ranges for the two classifications are as follows: JOB TITLE RANGE , MONTHLY SALARY Secretary Personnel Assistant 1081 1105 $1639-2001 $2206-2687 There is currently a Personnel Assistant classification in the Confidential Unit with a monthly salary range of $2154- 2624. That classification is beinq recommended to receive an increase effective January 1, 1990. However, the civil Service Office has no involvement in confidential labor relations matters and therefore this position does not qualify for consideration as part of the Confidential Unit. Range '1105 is the same range set for the classification of Personnel Technician, an unbudgeted position which has similar duties and minimum qualifications. The additional costs for this reclassification, comparinq top step salaries for the two classifications and adding in 18% for variable fringe benefits equals $9714. has been reviewed, and it is recommended ity of San Bernardino iNTEROFFICB MEMORANDUM 8912-1208 TO: Gordon Johnson, Director of Personnel FROM: Roger C. These duties now demand over 70% of the work time spent by this person. I have reviewed the various personnel work, and find the Assistant" most comparable to expected to perform. This is a most opportune time to correct the working out-of- classification problem, as Terri Carrillo, Secretary, (the person referred to above) resigned on December 15, 1989, to accept a higher paying job as Office Supervisor with another company. classifications assigned to classification of "Personnel the duties this person is This problem could be corrected now with no financial impact to our current budget, as the salary savings will more than cover the additional $150 per month for this year. , , It is very important to the timely filling of vacancies that this position is occupied as soon as possible, and would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.
