CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
Subiect:
Ordinance of the City of San Bernardino adding Chapter 2.77 to Title 2 of the San Bernardino
Municipal Code relating to the Santa Ana River Trail Commission.
Background:
In March of last year, Mayor Valles appointed Councilmember Longville to chair the Santa Ana
River Trail Blue Ribbon Committee. The committee was charged with creating a concept plan
for the City of San Bernardino's portion of the trail. The committee created a long-term
recreation and open space plan for the City's segment of the river corridor. In October of2005,
Mayor and Council approved a resolution supporting the Santa Ana River Trail Concept Plan.
In addition to adopting the resolution supporting the plan, Mayor and Council also approved a
motion to establish a Santa Ana River Trail Commission comprised of trail supporters to advise
the Mayor and Council regarding the Santa Ana River Trail. This ordinance establishes the
commission and outlines the composition of its members and their duties. It also establishes that
the commission will provide quarterly updates at regularly scheduled meetings of the Mayor and
Common Council in April and October of each year.
In addition to eight members nominated by the Mayor and each of the seven council members
(subject to approval of the Common Council), the chairperson of the commission shall appoint
dedicated representatives that include members from various Santa Ana River Trail stakeholder
groups. The structure of the commission with broad and inclusive participation will ensure the
maximum opportunity for success.
Fiscal Impact:
None.
Recommendation:
That said Ordinance be laid over for final adoption.
