Recommended Motion:
Authorize the Director of Development Services to execute Contract Change Order No. One in the amount of
$54,610.00 to contract with Kalban Construction, Inc., for the construction of ADA Access Ramps and

Authorization for the Director of Development Services to Execute Change Order No. One to contract with
Kalban, Inc. for the construction of ADA Access Ramps and Sidewalk at Various Locations (phase VI) per
Plan No. 10992B.

On December 20, 2004, the Mayor and Common Council awarded a contract to Kalban, Inc. for the
construction of ADA access ramps and "path oftravel" sidewalk at various locations.
The installation of curb, gutter, and sidewalk on Chestnut Avenue, south of Irvington, will complete the
roadway improvements abutting a proposed 4-acre park and serve to protect properties from storm water
runoff. G.F.R. has agreed to grade and pave Chestnut Avenue full width at no charge to the City, once the
curb, gutter and sidewalk is installed on the west side of Chestnut Avenue. The street improvements are not
abutting a G.F.R. project and are being done as a gesture of goodwill by the private development company.
Curb and gutter exists on the easterly side of Chestnut Avenue. Installation of sidewalk improvements on
Irvington, between Palm Avenue and Chestnut Avenue, will complete a portion of the sidewalk between
Palm Avenue and Chestnut A venue on Irvington.
Installation of this curb, gutter and sidewalk will enhance accessibility to the new elementary school being
constructed at the southwesterly comer of Belmont Avenue and Magnolia Avenue.
The City received excellent unit prices for the items of work involved in the sidewalk and ADA ramps
contract awarded to Kalban Construction, Inc. These unit prices will be applied to the new work on Chestnut
Avenue and Belmont Avenue.
Financial Impact:
Original Bid Amount $368,037.50
Contract Change Order No. I $ 54,610.00
Revised Construction Contract Cost $422,647.50
Total funding available for this project is $460,000 in Account No. 129-367-5504-7202 (SS-B), which is
sufficient to cover Contract Change Order No.1.
Recommendation:
Authorize the Director of Development Services to execute Contract Change Order No. One in the amount of
$54,610.00 to contract with Kalban Construction, me., for the construction of ADA Access Ramps and Sidewalk
at Various Locations (Phase VI) per Plan No. 10992B.

JUSTIFICATION:
Additional 520 l.f. Curb & Gutter
The additional curb and gutter is located on Chestnut Ave., south of Irvington. The
1-1 developer, G.F.R, has agreed to make subgrade and pave the road once the curb and
gutter is installed. This will complete Chestnut Ave. to full width improvements.
Installation of this curb, gutter and sidewalk will enhance accessibility to a new school
being constructed at Magnolia Avenue and Belmont Avenue.
Additional 5,580 s.f. Sidewalk
1-2 The installation of 5,580 s.f. of sidewalk will complete the sidewalk improvements on
Chestnut Ave., west of Irvington and on Irvington between Palm Ave. and Chestnut Ave.
