Dept: Human Resources Date: December 13, 2004 MCC Date: 12/20/04 Synopsis of Previous Council Action: 12/15/03 Mayor and Common Council established salaries for Police Department classifications P4 (Lieutenant), P5 (Captain), P6 (Assistant Police Chief), and P7 (Police Chief), effective August 1,2003. Recommended Motion 1. That salaries for the following classifications be established as outlined in the attached Staff Report effective August 1, 2004: Police Department P4 (Lieutenant), P5 (Captain), P6 (Assistant Police Chief), and P7 (Police Chief). 2. That the Mayor and Common Council authorize the Director of Finance to amend the Fiscal Year 2004-2005 Budget to transfer $84,500 from the General Government Budget (001-092-5011) to the Police Department Budget in the General Fund. 3. BACKGROUND Section 186 of the City Charter established a formula for setting salaries for local safety members effective August 1 of each year. Staff reached agreement with Police Management on the ten cities to be used for this year's calculation. The salaries from those ten cities have been averaged to determine this year's salaries for Police Management classifications. This year's salaries for Fire Safety, Fire Management, and Police Safety classifications were approved at a previous meeting. By comparison, total Section 186 costs for this group in FY 03/04 were $89,500. FINANCIAL IMPACT The City's FY 04-05 budget in General Government included $1,900,000 to cover all Charter 186 pay increases. Fire Department Safety, Fire Department Management and Police Department Safety salaries were previously approved in the amount of $1,645,900. The amount outlined above for Police Department is $84,500. RECOMMENDA nON 1. That salaries for the following classifications be established as outlined in this Staff Report effective August 1,2004: Police Department P4 (Lieutenant), P5 (Captain), P6 (Assistant Police Chief), and P7 (Police Chief). 2.
