CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO -REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
SUBJECT
Establishment of salaries for Police Department P4, P5, P6, and P7 effective August I, 2004.
BACKGROUND
Section 186 of the City Charter established a formula for setting salaries for local safety members
effective August 1 of each year. Staff reached agreement with Police Management on the ten cities to
be used for this year's calculation. The salaries from those ten cities have been averaged to determine
this year's salaries for Police Management classifications. This year's salaries for Fire Safety, Fire
Management, and Police Safety classifications were approved at a previous meeting.
The ten cities agreed upon for classifications P-4 (Lieutenant), P-5 (Captain), P-6 (Assistant
Police Chief), and P-7 (Police Chief) are:
San Buenaventura
Santa Rosa
Thousand Oaks
Glendale
Hayward
Escondido
Downey
Huntington Beach
Torrance
Pasadena
The new monthly salaries, effective August I, 2004, are:

pay increases. Fire Department Safety, Fire Department Management and Police Department
Safety salaries were previously approved in the amount of $1,645,900. The amount outlined above
for Police Department is $84,500.
