SUBJECT
Resolution authorizing the City of San Bernardino to donate two (2) Water Tenders from surplus
to Valle de Banderas, State of Nayarit, Mexico.
BACKGROUND
The Fire Department received a request from Dr. Bill Eichs, via the Council Office, regarding
the possible donation of fire apparatus to Valle de Banderas, State of Nayarit, Mexico. Fire has
two (2) water tenders that are scheduled for surplus. Through normal and continual use, fire
apparatus need to be replaced once their usefulness has been expended. Generally, apparatus in
this condition are auctioned and the proceeds placed into the City General Fund.
The City has the opportunity to donate these retired fire apparatus to Valle de Banderas, State of
Nayarit, Mexico. The following are the apparatus to be donated:

These pieces of apparatus are valued at approximately $6,000. With transfer of titles for the fire
apparatus, the City of San Bernardino would remove themselves from liability. Insurance,
registration, and maintenance would be the responsibility of Valle de Banderas, State of Nayarit,
Mexico.
In accordance with the City of San Bernardino Municipal Code Section 3.04.100 (Surplus
supplies and equipment), request is hereby made authorizing the Mayor to donate these fire
apparatus to Valle de Banderas, State of Nayarit, Mexico.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The possible revenue from auction of the fire apparatus would be approximately $3,000 per
vehicle for a total of $6,000 for both Water Tender apparatus. The City upon donation of these
vehicles will not realize this revenue.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt resolution.
