September 16,2004
An Ordinance of the City of San Bernardino amending Section 12.80.020,
Definitions, ofthe San Bernardino Municipal Code, by adding Paragraph "G"
to define inline skates (Agenda Item #25).
Previously, the Mayor and Common Council adopted an ordinance adding Paragraph "T" to
Section 12.80.130, which made it unlawful for any person to:
Skateboard or inline skate at a City-owned skateboard park without
wearing a helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads. Use this facility for
skateboarding or inline skating if under the age of fourteen (14) years
without being supervised by an adult. Use any other equipment other
than skateboards or inline skates at this facility. Skateboard or inline
skate during rain or wet conditions at this facility.
Paragraph "T" was subsequently amended to add a provision that it is also unlawful for
people to be in the skateboard park unless they are skating or are a supervising adult.
The proposed ordinance covered in this agenda item would add the definition ofinline skates
to Section 12.80.020, Definitions, since thattermhas now been included in Section 12.80.130T. The
definition was obtained by the Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department by contacting
the California Skate Park Coalition, an organization primarily composed of government agencies
which own and/or operate skate parks.
The Legislative Review Committee recommended approval of the subject ordinance to the
Mayor and Common Council. It is requested that the proposed ordinance be laid over for final
adoption.
