Recommended Motion:
That the Purchasing Manager be authorized to execute Change Order No. One to contract with
Eberhardt Construction, Inc. for removal of unforeseen site conditions at Fire Station #232 in the
amount of $22,892.66.

SUBJECT
Authorization to execute Change Order No. One to contract with Eberhardt
Construction, Inc. for removal of unforeseen site conditions at Fire Station #232.
BACKGROUND
On March 16, 2004, a contract was issued to Eberhardt Construction, Inc. in the amount of
$2,223,000, for the construction of Fire Station #232 in the Verdemont Area. After the start of
this project, a basement of a previous structure was uncovered on the site. This basement was
removed to provide for a sound foundation for the new fire station. This change was not
identified prior to the start of construction and the costs are consistent with the Standard
Specifications for Public Works Projects (Greenbook). Staff recommends approval of this
change order.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
For FY 2003/04, this project is funded in the Verdemont Fire Station Construction Fund,
Account No. 211-377-5504-7451 in the amount of $2,500,000, using State Infrastructure Bank
Loan Proceeds. The initial contract was for $2,223,000 and had a contingency budget of
$75,000. This change order authorizes the use of $22,892.66 ofthat contingency budget.
RECOMMENDATION
That the Purchasing Manager be authorized to execute Change Order No. One to the contract
with Eberhardt Construction, Inc. for the removal of unforeseen site conditions in the amount of
$22,892.66
