Synopsis of Previous Council Action:
On August 9, 2004, the Personnel Committee recommended this item for approval.
Recommended Motion:
Reclassify the position of Assistant to the City Administrator to new classification of Assistant
City Administrator. Classification and salary adjustment to be effective August 16, 2004, with
the following motions:
1. Reclassify one (1) Assistant to the City Administrator position, Range 4530, $6,242-
$7,587/month, to new classification of Assistant City Administrator, Range 4568, $7,544-
$9,170/month.
2. Direct the Human Resources Department to update Resolution 6413 and Resolution
2003-328, to reflect this action. ' .

Staff Report
Subject:
Reclassification of the position of Assistant to the City Administrator to the new classification of
Assistant City Administrator.
Background:
The position of Assistant to the City Administrator has undergone changes in responsibilities and
duties. The FY 2004-05 budget adjustments have moved the Supervision of the
Telecommunications Division to the City Administrator's Office. The duties of the former
CATV Manager position including the supervision of the studio will now be assumed by the
Assistant to the City Administrator. In addition this position will continue to manage special
projects, coordinate state and federal legislative affairs, obtain grant funding, as well as, serving
as a liaison between departments and the City Administrator. The position will investigate,
analyze, and prepare reports for Council Action, as well as, make recommendations concerning
departmental/divisional operations and expenditures.
To reflect the increasing responsibility of the position and the increased duties of supervising the
Telecommunications Division, it is recommended that the Assistant to the City Administrator be
reclassified to Assistant City Administrator.
Financial Impact:
Budgeted cost for the Assistant to the City Administrator for FY 2004-05:
Salary $ 82,572
Benefits 18.273
Total $100,845
Proposed cost for the Assistant City Administrator for FY 2004-05:
Salary $ 89,534
Benefits 18.879
Total $108,413
The FY 2004-05 cost to implement the proposed reclassification is approximately $7,600.
Funding for this increase is available in the FY 2004-05 budget due to the elimination of the
CATV Manager.
Recommendation:
I. Reclassify one (I) Assistant to the City Administrator position, Range 4530, $6,242-
$7,587/month, to new classification of Assistant City Administrator, Range 4568,
$7,544-$9, I 70/month.
3. Direct the Human Resources Department to update Resolution 6413 and Resolution
2003-328 to reflect this action.
