Backl!round The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has provided a Headstart Program at Delmann Heights Community Center since 1978 with an agreement with San Bernardino City Unified School District for providing lunches and snacks. This program currently accommodates 30 morning and 30 afternoon preschoolers, ages 3-5, and runs September through June. The Delmann Heights Headstart program will continue to be administered by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. The Boys & Girls Club management agreement for Delmann Heights Community Center does not affect the management of the Headstart program. This amendment to the agreement which was first approved by Resolution 98-267, dated September 21, 1998 is only to show the changes in the price of lunches and snacks and to extend the period of the agreement for the new year, July 1, 2004 through June 30, 2005. The price for breakfast increased by four cents, from .97~ to $1.01, student Type A lunches increased by four cents, from $2.06 to $2.10, Schedule B snacks increased by four cents, from .50~ to .54~ and adult lunches increased four cents, from $2.11 to $2.15. Lunches include milk, entree, fruit, or dessert. Student Type A lunches are smaller portions than adult lunches. The Schedule B snack consists of fruit or juice and crackers. The increases are due to an increase in the cost of service provided by the school district which includes furnishing milk, straws, utensils and napkins. Financial Impact There will be no impact to the General Fund Budget. The Food Service Agreement portion of the Headstart Grant is for $28,860 and this amount will cover all food service costs for FY 2004-05.
