Background: The Califomia Oil Recycling Enhancement Act mandates the California Integrated Waste Management Board to provide annual Block Grants to local govemments for establishing and maintaining local used oil collection programs that encourage recycling or appropriate disposal of used motor oil and filters. The 2004/2005 Used Oil Recycling Block Grant Application, if approved, will provide $58,900 to enhance and maintain the City's current Used Oil Program. Of this total request, $12,000 will be used to offset personnel costs within the Environmental Projects Division. The remaining $46,900 will be utilized to purchase materials and supplies necessary for program implementation and promotion. The City has received Used Oil Recycling block grant funds from the Califomia Integrated Waste Management for the past nine years. Application due date is June 1, 2004. Specific projects within this application include the continuation of the used oil and filter curbside collection program, distribution of used oil and filter collection containers for residents, and public and school education programs. The grant term is from July 1, 2004 through June 30, 2006. Financial Impact: The amount of grant funding requested is $58,900. There are no matching funds required by the City.
