Description: Signing & Striping Materials Finance: Council Notes: R ~ *2.C:04.-q 'i Agenda Item NO.~ '//19 lor " CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT Sublect: Authorization to declare Ohio Avenue a through highway from Olive Avenue to Pine Avenue. Backl!l"ound: The Traffic Engineering Section received a request from the Council Office to evaluate the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Ohio Avenue for a I-way stop sign. Traffic Engineering Staff evaluated the request. The area of the study was expanded to include two adjacent intersections, as follows: Ohio Avenue at Azalea Avenue and Ohio Avenue at Beechwood Avenue. These intersections are similar in nature/characteristics to Ohio Avenue and Walnut Avenue. Due to some sight visibility limitations caused by landscaping and block walls at each of these locations, the intersections meet warrants for I-way stop signs. Consequently, it is recommended that stop signs be installed on Azalea, Beechwood, and Walnut Avenues' approaches to Ohio Avenue. The visibility limitations are not causing a significant problem at this time, however, this will probably change as the area grows and traffic increases on Ohio Avenue. To mitigate the sight limitations at these intersections, it is recommended that stop signs be installed on Azalea, Beechwood, and Walnut Avenues' approaches to Ohio Avenue. Declaring Ohio Avenue a "through highway" between Olive Avenue and Pine Avenue will allow staff to install these stop signs. Financial Imuact: The estimated cost of $1,200.00 for installing the new stop signs will come from Account No. 001-187-5111 (Signing and Striping Materials) Recommendation: Adopt Resolution.
