DEVLIN. 4 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MA YOR AND COMMON COl)NCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: 5 6 7 8 SECTION I. The City of San Bernardino will open Fire Station #232, also known as the Verdemont Fire Station, at 6055 North Palm Avenue in January 2005, making it the City's 12th fire station. The fire station will be a state-of-the-art facility and will provide service for many generations to come. 9 10 SECTION 2. Jerry M. Devlin served as the Council member representing the Fifth Ward from September 1993 until he passed away on July 12, 1999. Former Councilman Devlin was born in San Bernardino, attended local elementary schools, SI. Bernardine's High School, San 11 12 13 Bernardino Valley College, and earner his bachelor's and master's degrees from California State 14 University San Bernardino. Prior to being elected as the Fifth Ward Council member, Jerry Devlin 15 worked for the San Bernardino Police Department and retired as a lieutenant on August 20, 1993 16 after 28 years of loyal service. Throughout his life, former Councilman Devlin had a consummate 17 and passionate devotion to his city, his country, and his faith. His contributions to public service 18 were evident in his labors with Newmark Little League, Mary's Table, Rotary Breakfast Club, 19 Soap Box Derby, and his steadfast determination to improve the quality of life for the constituents he served. One of former Councilman Devlin's goals was to see the establishment of a new fire 20 21 station to serve the rapidly growing ward he represented. 22 SECTION 3. Former Councilman Devlin's dream of having a new fire station built in the Fifth Ward will be realized in January 2005. To honor the memory of former Councilman Jerry 23 24 25 M. Devlin and the numerous contributions he made to the City he loved so much, the Mayor and Members of the Common Council do hereby name the City's newest fire station at 6055 North Palm A venue the 26 27 28 JERRY M. DEVLIN FIRE STATION and request that appropriate signage designate the dedication and naming of the fire station in Ljlo.
