Writing Specialist for Student Assistance in Learning, a federally
funded program at CSUSB. As the Writing Specialist, I developed,
implemented, and maintained a series of Basic Writing Labs to
supplement the Intensive English course offered at CSUSB.

Dean of Undergraduate Studies. The Dean of Undergraduate
Studies has broad responsibilities in a number of area~. Academic
Support Services including the Learning Center, the Writing
Center, the Advising Center, EOP and SAIL all report to the me.
The Testing Office reports to me. The General Education
curriculum is also under the perview of the Dean of Undergraduate
Studies. Outreach to the K-12 system in the form of as siting in
student preparation is another responsibility of this office.
Schedule Coordinator, School of Humanities, California State
University, San Bernardino. I retained this portion of the Associate
Dean's job after that position was eliminated. As Schedule
Coordinator, I was responsible for coordinating the building of the
class schedule for the seven academic departments that make up
the School of Humanities.
Associate Dean (Acting), School of Humanities, California State
University, San Bernardino. As Associate Dean, I was responsible
for coordinating the building of the class schedule each term. I
handled student petitions for waivers of university regulations,
drops after census date, and for readmission of students dismissed
from the university because of poor academic performance.
Finally, in conjunction with the department chairs and the School
RPT Evaluation committee, I coordinated the scbecJuling of
classroom visitaLions as part of the RPT process. The position of
Associate Dean was eliminated due to budget cuts at the start of
the 1992-93 academic year.
Director, Intensive Learning Experience Program at CSUSB. The
ILE budget at CSUSB for 1989-90 was just over $164,000. As ILE
Director, I \\'as responsible for all aspects of the ILE program on
campus. I managed the budget, monitored the selection of faculty
hired to teach both the math and English courses that are a part of
the ILE program, helped enforce the Basic Skills policy, provided
special academic advising for ILE students, and monitored their
progress. I also supervised one half-time employee.

Consultant for the Writing Sample of the Medical College
Admission Test (MCAT). I am one of four consultants chosen
nationally to help set the writing standards for candidates taking
the MCAT.

Chief Reader for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) pilot
project. The pilot project tested new item types and a new scoring
guide for the newly added essay component of the GRE which will
become active in 1997.
Chief Reader for the Graduate Management Admissions Test
(GMAT) pre-test reading. I supervised the reading of a pool of new
items for the GMAT. In addition to reading responses to the items,
my team helped to revise items which were to be sent out for a
second round of testing.
Chief Reader for Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).
As Chief Reader, I am responsible for the selection of training
papers for a cadre of approximately 200 readers and 25 table
leaders. I am also responsible for training the readers to the
standards of the test. During the course of a three or four day
reading, approximately 51,000 papers are read by two readers.
The accuracy of the scoring of these papers is the primary
responsibility of the Chief Reader.
In 1997, Educational Testing Service ended the large scale scoring
sessions in favor of on-line scoring of essays in regional testing
centers. Because there arc no scoring centers in Southern
California, I am no longer involved in reading for GMAT.

subset of the TOEFL program).

Chief Reader for the California Basic Educational Skills Test
(CBEST) .
Co-chair of the CCCC Software Sampler. Following a report I made
to the NCTE Computer Committee, the Software Sampler has been
completely redesigned. To make the Software Sampler more
responsive to the needs of those attending the conference, we now

include scheduled time slots where experts in a variety of areas
related to computers and composition are available to answer
questions. We have added demonstrations of new software by
faculty who use it regularly at their institutions. And we have
retained the hands-on access to a commercial and faculty
developed software. I was the primary instigator of these changes.
As Co-chair, I was responsible for finding participants, procuring
hardware and software, and for staffing the two-day Software
Sampler which is listed as an on-going session at the annual
Conference on College Composition and Communication.
Chief Reader for CSU English Placement Test.
Chief Reader for the California Basic Educational Skills Test
(CBEST).
I was one of three people selected from California to participate in
the development of a new subject matter assessment test (Praxis)
for secondary teacher certification. 1 was chosen by staff members
at Educational Testing service because of my expertise in test
development. The test is now administered nationwide by
Educational Testing Service.
Co-chair of the CCCC Software Sampler. As Co-chair, I was
responsible for finding participants, procuring hardware and
software, and for staffing the two-day Software Sampler which is
listed as an on-going session at the annual Conference on College
Composition and Communication.
Appointed to the statewide English Placement Test (EPT) Test
Development Committee. This committee, in conjunction with
senior Test De\'elopers from Educational Testing Service, writes the
individual items for the English Placement Test. I wrote items that
became operational for all sections of the test. We then read field
tests of the newly developed items to judge their suitability for the
CSU student population.

Table Leader" are responsible for the immediate supervision of
readers z't large-scale essay readings. The Table Leader supervises
approximately six to eight readers. Table Leaders conduct training
of readers at their tables. Table Leaders also participate in the
selection of sample papers used for training the readers. Finally,
Table Leaden; provide feedback to readers about the accuracy of
their scoring.
