CITY OF SAN BERreRDINO - REQUEST .R COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
The additional rights-of-way required, for installation
of traffic signals at Mill Street and Meridian Avenue, have
recently been granted by adjoining property owners. Preparation
of the plans for installation of traffic signals at this location
has been commenced.
The existing traffic signals on Mill Street, at Pepper
Avenue and Eucalyptus Avenue, are interconnected in order to
provide progressive movement of traffic. We feel that it would
be advantageous for the new signals to be interconnected with the
two existing signals.
A contract has recently been awarded for the improvement
of the south side of Hill Street, from Meridian Avenue to a point
about 550 feet east of Pepper Avenue. The conduit for the
traffic signal interconnect cable could be installed at a lesser
price under this contract, than the future one for installation
of traffic signals.
The Contractor was accordingly requested to submit a
price quote for installation of conduit for the traffic signal
interconnect. A price quote of $9,700 was provided in response
to this request, which equates to about $6.90 per foot.
We have received this quote and found that it compares
very favorably with the normal price of about $10.00 per foot.
The total estimated project cost included an amount of
$15,560.70 for contingencies which can be used to finance the
cost of this extra work.
We recommend that installation of the traffic signal
conduit be authorized.
