STAFF REPORT
Council Meeting Date: Julv 18, 2005

AGENDA:
Mayor and Common Council
City Attorney's Office
July 7, 2005
July 18,2005
Within the existing City of San Bernardino's classification system, there is the class of
Deputy City Attorney, which includes the Deputy City Attorney I through IV classifications, and the
class ofSr. Deputy City Attorney. Currently, the City Attorney's Office has five positions authorized
in the Deputy City Attorney class and one position authorized in the Sr. Deputy City Attorney class.
It is proposed that an Attorney series be created with the existing classes of Deputy City
Attorney and Sr. Deputy City Attorney so as to provide for hiring and staff movement within such
series based upon experience, performance and level of duties, with placement or movement within
the series to be determined by the City Attorney and subsequently approved by the Mayor and
Common Council. The existing salary scales for the individual classifications will be retained.
Establishment of this series will create a career ladder consisting of Deputy City Attorney
I, II, III, IV and Sr. Deputy City Attorney.
The creation of this series will:
.
allow more flexibility to place staff according to skill level.
.
respond to the needs of the City Attorney's Office and its workload.
.
allow vacancies to be filled at any level.
It is requested that the floor motion be adopted.
