HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991-417 1 RESOLUTION NO. 91-41:7. 2 RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO APPROVING A STANDARD AGREEMENT RELATING TO 3 PARTICIPANTS IN ~HE JUNIOR POLICE ACADEMY. 4 WHEREAS, the challenges facing our young people today are 5 enormous, and 6 WHEREAS, the Junior Police Academy, made up of 9 and 10 year 7 olds attending Lytle Creek Elementary School, has been established 8 to instill and foster traditional American values and to introduce 9 these young people to law enforcement as a career goal, and 10 WHEREAS, as an inducement to these young people to follow 11 through on these commitments and to reject the negative pressures 12 that are all around them it is appropriate to offer them an 13 additional tangible goal if they choose a career in law 14 enforcement, in the hopes that they will become career law 15 enforcement officers in the City of San Bernardino, 16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON 17 COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: 18 SECTION 1. PENMAN, City Attorney DAB/ses/Academy.res 2 July 11, 1991 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 Res. 91-417 AGREEMENT THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into this day of , 1991 by and between the parent or guardian ("Parent") of , a member of the Junior Police Academy, (" student") and the CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO, a Charter City (" Ci ty" ) : WITNESSETH: WHEREAS, Student is a member of the Junior Police Academy, and WHEREAS, City is interested in the development of its youth, and WHEREAS, modest investments in youth now will lead to better citizens and community leaders in the future, and WHEREAS, law enforcement is a laudable and worthwhile career goal, which teaches both youth and adults a respect for the rule of law in our society, NOW THEREFORE, the parties hereto agree as follows: 1. At the date of this Agreement Student is years old and his or her birthday is , 19 2. If Student is employed by the San Bernardino Police Department as a sworn officer prior to his twenty-fifth (25th) birthday, the City hereby agrees to pay Student the sum of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00). 3. In order to collect said payment the original of this Agreement must be surrendered to the City within Sixty (60) days after said employment. 4. Nothing in this Agreement shall be construed as obligating the City to hire student and such employment will DAB/ses/Academy.agr 1 July 11, 1991 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 1 depend entirely on normal City hiring processes, including 2 necessary vacancies and the qualifications of Student. 3 5. This Agreement or the rights thereunder are not 4 transferrable and are personal to Student. 5 IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties hereto have executed this 6 Agreement on the day and date first above shown. 7 STUDENT 8 9 CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO BY: W.R.
