" 1 RESOLUTION NO, 91-98 2 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO OPPOSING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A FEDERAL PRISON AT NORTON AIR FORCE BASE. 3 WHEREAS, Norton Air Force Base, located within the City of 4 San Bernardino, is projected for closure, and 5 WHEREAS, the City in cooperation with other neighboring 6 cities has proposed a development of Norton Air Force Base to 7 provide commercial, industrial and residential uses and needed 8 public services to the area, and 9 WHEREAS, such development located close to commercial areas of the City would provide an economic stimulus, including new jobs, trade, housing and industrial potential, and WHEREAS, the City is informed that consideration is now being given to the use of Norton Air Force Base as a federal prison, and WHEREAS, such a prison near the commercial areas of the community would generate a negative impact on the City and its economic growth, and would not be in the best interest of the community or its citizens, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO that the City of San Bernardino does hereby strongly oppose the siting of a federal prison at Norton Air Force Base, and urges that plans for the beneficial use of the location by the local cities be allowed to continue. / / / / / / / / / / / / DAB/dys/noprison.res March 18, 1991 1 I . .... 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 .. 1 RESOLUTION. .
