HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-024 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 RESOLUTION NO. 92-24 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT OF THE CHARTER OF SAID CITY PROVIDING THAT THE COMMON COUNCIL SHALL SELECT THE CHAIR WHO SHALL PRESIDE AT ALL MEETINGS OF THE COUNCIL BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Recitals. (a) In accordance with the Constitution of the State of California, the City of San Bernardino, a municipal corporation, has adopted a Charter. (b) The Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino desire to submit to the electors the Charter Amendment set forth in this resolution. SECTION 2. Submittal to Electors. The following proposed 14 amendment to the Charter of the City of San Bernardino is 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 submitted to the qualified electors of the City of San Bernardino for their approval or rejection at the consolidated municipal election to be held on Tuesday, June 2, 1992. PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT NO. It is proposed that Section 36 of the Charter of the City of San Bernardino be amended and Section 37 be added both to read as follows: Section 36 Council Chair to preside. The Common Council shall appoint as Chair one of its own members who shall serve at the pleasure of the Common Council and preside at all meetings of the Common Council. Only members of the Common Council shall be empowered to vote at such meetings. Section 37. Mayor Pro Tempore. In case of a vacancy in office, or if by reason of absence from the City, or sickness, or from any other cause, the Mayor is unable to perform the duties of such office, the Council shall appoint one of their own number Mayor pro tempore who shall have all the powers and authority which the Mayor would have possessed if personally present and attending to such duties, but such Mayor pro tempore shall not lose his vote as councilman. The Chair of the Common Council and the Mayor Pro Tempore may be the same person.
