RESOLUTION NO. '13 393
2 RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN
BERNARDINO OPPOSING PROPOSITION NO. 174 -- PARENTAL CHOICE IN
3 EDUCATION.
4 WHEREAS, the Mayor and Common Council believes that a free
5 public education is the cornerstone upon which our democracy, a
6 model for other free nations throughout the world is built; and
7 WHEREAS, the Mayor and Common Council believes that the San
8 Bernardino city Unified School District has made great strides in
9 contributing to an educated citizenry by offering parents an
10 unprecedented array of educational options including more than 28
11 separate magnet school programs; and
12
13
14
15
WHEREAS, unlike the educational options offered by the San
Bernardino City Unified school District, the "Parental Choice in
Education" Initiative would undermine the free public education in
California by diverting public funds to pay the high cost of
16 tuition for existing and future private school students; and
17
WHEREAS, this proposal ignores the contributions of the
