RESOLUTION NO. 93-322
3 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO URGING THE SOCIAL
SECURITY ADMINISTRATION TO KEEP THE SAN BERNARDINO DISTRICT OFFICE
4 DOWNTOWN .
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, the San Bernardino District office of the Social
Security Administration has been located in downtown San Bernardino
since 1981; and,
WHEREAS, the San Bernardino Social Security office is
centrally located and easily accessible to the clientele served in
the San Bernardino area; and,
WHEREAS, downtown San Bernardino is both the central business
district and government center for the county and city of San
Bernardino, and is the transit hub for public transportation; and,
WHEREAS, Executive Order No. 12072 specifically states that
Central Business Districts be given first priority in locating
federal Offices; and
WHEREAS, the city of San Bernardino is set to kick off major
development and revitalization projects in the downtown area, and
the loss of major business and government tenants from the downtown
22 area would have a detrimental effect on these revitalization
23 efforts; and

WHEREAS, downtown crime has dropped dramatically due to
25 proactive code enforcement and new police programs such as the
26 Bicycle Patrols; and,
27 WHEREAS, the City is moving forward with plans to provide

4 substantial increases in public parking for the downtown core to
5 make government and business services even more accessible; and
6 WHEREAS, the City will work closely with the Social Security
7 Office to address any concerns that exist or may arise due to
8 location in the downtown area.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON
10 COUNCIL, CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO, AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. That this Council, on behalf of the people of San
Bernardino,
hereby,
strongly
the
Social
Security
urges
Administration to remain in the central business district,
a location in which the interests of the constituents of the San
Bernardino area are best served.
