HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-146 1 2 RESOLUTION NO. 93-146 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO OPPOSING SENATE BILL 1154 3 WHICH MANDATES THAT COUNTY EMS AGENCIES APPROVE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF LOCAL AMBULANCE SERVICE AND ALL OPERATNG CONTRACTS THAT CITIES 4 ENTER INTO WITH AMBULANCE PROVIDERS. 5 WHEREAS, the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services is 6 considering SB 1154 which mandates that County EMS agencies approve 7 the establishment of local ambulance service and all operating 8 contracts that cities enter into with ambulance providers; and 9 10 WHEREAS, in most urban areas of California, municipal fire departments and fire districts provide the majority of pre-hospital 11 emergency medical care; and 12 WHEREAS, all 911 calls are dispatched by local goverment 13 agencies; and 14 WHEREAS, cities can most effectively integrate outside 15 ambulance service providers into city-operated pre-hospital care; 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 and WHEREAS, local jurisdictions are most knowledgeable about budgetary constraints and special local needs within a community NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino do hereby strongly oppose the passage of AB 1154 and urge a "No" vote by the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services.
