HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-110 1 RESOLUTION NO. 93-110 2 RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA, HEREBY PROCLAIMING AND DECLARING THE DESIGNATION OF APRIL 5 THROUGH 9, 1993, AS "NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK '93". 3 4 5 6 WHEREAS, during this time of budget difficulties, the problem 7 of maintaining a decent standard of living in America has increased 8 along with the task of meeting the needs of persons of low and moderate 9 income, as evidenced by the dwindling supply of affordable housing, the 10 massive rise in homelessness, unemployment and the resurfacing of 11 hunger and malnutrition as measures of widening economic disparity; and, 12 WHEREAS, the Federal Community Development Block Grant Program 13 has operated since 1974 to provide local governments with the resources 14 required to meet the needs of persons of low and moderate income; and 15 WHEREAS, the nature of the Community Development Block Grant 16 program, with its diversity of program design and administration, its 17 ability to respond to local1y determined priorities, and its facility 18 for being last resort funding, has caused the Congress and the nation 19 to appreciate the critical value of the program, and the significant 20 number of organizations and projects that rely on its funds for 21 support; and 22 WHEREAS, the significant 17.6% increase in nationwide 23 Community Development Block Grant funding from $3.4 billion in 1992 to 24 $4 billion in 1993, is a clear testimony to the value and effectiveness 25 of the program nationwide; and, 26 WHEREAS, a week recognizing national community development 27 will encourage local governments, nonprofit organizations, and 28 community residents throughout the nation to reaffirm the significance RES 93-U:- ! and diversity of their local community development program efforts 2 toward meeting the needs of persons of low and moderate income. 3 Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Mayor and Common 4 Council of the City of San Bernardino does hereby proclaim and declare 5, through 9, 1993, as "National Community 5 the designation of April 6 Development Week '93". 7 IIII 8 IIII 9 IIII 10 IIII 11 IIII 12 IIII 13 IIII 14 IIII 15 IIII 16 IIII 17 IIII 18 IIII 19 IIII 20 IIII 21 IIII 22 IIII 23 IIII 24 IIII 25 IIII 26 IIII 27 IIII 28 IIII RES 93-110 J 2 RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA, HEREBY PROCLAIMING AND DECLARING THE DESIGNATION OF APRIL 5 THROUGH 9, 1993, AS "NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK '93." 3 4 This Resolution shall take effect upon the date of its adoption.
