HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-096 1 RESOLUTION 93-96 2 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO ENCOURAGING THE 3 IMPOSITION OF MAXIMUM SENTENCES FOR OFFENSES RELATING TO GRAFFITI AND VANDALISM. 4 5 WHEREAS, the proliferation of graffiti and juvenile vandalism has escalated in recent times, and 6 7 WHEREAS, such graffiti has proven detrimental to the aesthetic, social, environmental 8 and economic fabric of the community, and 9 WHEREAS, studies have shown a correlation between the presence of graffiti and 10 potential increased criminal activity, and 11 12 residents of the City of San Bernardino in regards to such graffiti, and 13 WHEREAS, the City Council is responsible for the conveyance of the concerns of the 14 WHEREAS, we have been advised that the court has not been imposing the maximum 15 penalties available for such crimes, including: loss of a driver's license for up to one year; 16 requiring 360 hours of community service; andlor the maximum fine allowed by law. 17 NOW, THEREFORE the City Council, of the City of San Bernardino resolves as follows: 18 19 20 21 22 SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of San Bernardino hereby encourages the Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Court Division to advocate the imposition of the maximum sentences available for offenses relating to graffiti and vandalism.
