RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO APPROVING A SIDE
LETTER TO RESOLUTION NO. 89-129, RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING MANAGEMENT
AND CONFIDENTIAL COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS PLAN, AMENDING SECTION
H, PERS, AND ADDING SECTION V, UNIFORM ALLOWANCE FOR FIRE SAFETY
MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEES, EFFECTIVE AS OF DECEMBER 1, 1997, WITH
COUNCIL APPROVAL.
WHEREAS the Mayor and Common Council approved Resolution No. 96-286,
authorizing the execution of an agreement with Ralph Andersen & Associates for a Management!
Confidential compensation study;
WHEREAS the "AGREEMENT" made and entered into by and between City of San
Bernardino and Ralph Andersen & Associates included as one of its objectives, to conduct a
survey of municipalities regarding their benefits for management (safety and non-safety) and
confidential employees and develop benefit recommendations;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The Mayor and Director of Personnel are hereby authorized and directed
to execute on behalf of said City a Side Letter to Resolution No. 89-129, amending Section H,
PERS, and adding Section V, Uniform Allowance, for Fire Safety Management employees, a
copy of which amendments are attached hereto and incorporated herein marked Exhibit. A. "
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the Mayor and
Common Council of the City of San Bernardino at a joint regular

SIDE LETTER TO RESOLUTION NO. 89-129
FOR FIRE SAFETY MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEES
This exhibit sets forth the Side Letter to Resolution No. 89-129, for full-time, regular, active
Fire Safety Management employees.
PERS (Add): Effective immediately, the City will contribute eight percent (8%) of the Fire
Safety management employees' nine percent (9%) contribution to PERS credited to the
employee's account as a fringe benefit.
UNIFORM ALLOWANCE (New Section): The City shall furnish and replace as needed the
following items:
Four (4) work shirts;
Three (3) pairs of work trousers;
Safety boots or shoes.
TWO-TIER RETIREMENT: The Fire Management employees agree to two-tier retirement as
outlined in the Confidential and Management Unit agreement.
REASONABLE SUSPICION DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING - The Fire Management
employees agree to have Fire Management employees with drivers licenses of (1) Class "B" FX
with "X" endorsement, (2) with Commercial Drivers licenses or (3) Class "C" drivers licenses
will participate in reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing, as outlined in the Fire Safety
Employees' MOU.
