San Bernardino County Department of Public Health
Perinatal and Adolescent Life Section
and City of San Bernardino Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department
Letter of Intent
The purpose of this letter is to integrate and coordinate core mentoring and recreational services
to be offered by City of San Bernardino Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department
for at-risk youth and their families. Teen pregnancy as well as other high-risk behaviors among
youth continues to be a significant problem in the City of San Bernardino. A "high-risk
corridor" exists along four zip code areas where inner-city youth are especially vulnerable to the
negative-risk behavior of teen pregnancy, drug use, school dropouts and gang violence. Families
of these at-risk youth are often lacking in the necessary skills to communicate effectively with
their children. Integrated and collaborative services are needed to assist high-risk families and
youth toward empowerment and positive education and career achievement that will ultimately
reduce the incidence of teen pregnancy in the respective communities.
Joint Intervention
