ORDINANCE NO.
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AMENDING AND
REPEALING VARIOUS SECTIONS OF CHAPTER 15.12 OF THE SAN BERNARDINO
MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO EARTHQUAKE HAZARD REDUCTION IN
EXISTING BUILDINGS.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SAN BERNARDINO DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 15.12, Earthquake Hazard Reduction in Existing Buildings, is
hereby amended to read as follows:
"15.12.010
Adoption of Code by Reference.
Those standards and regulations, as set forth in Appendix Chapter I of the Uniform Code
for Building Conservation of the International Conference of Building Officials, 1991 Edition, are
hereby adopted by reference as the regulations governing the seismic strengthening of unreinforced
masonry bearing wall buildings within the City of San Bernardino
Copies of this Code shall be kept on file in the City Clerk's Office for inspection and
reference and a copy of this Code shall be furnished to the Director of the Development Services
Department.
In the event of any inconsistency or conflict between the above code and the requirements
of other City codes or State statutes, the City codes shall apply."
15.12.020 is hereby repealed.
15.12.030 is hereby repealed.
15.12.040 is hereby repealed.
15.12.100 is hereby repealed.
15.12.110 is hereby repealed.
15.12.120 is hereby repealed.
15.12.130 is hereby repealed.
15.12.140 is hereby repealed.

Sign Posting.
A. Any building owner who has received actual or constructive notice from the
Building Official that a building located in the City of San Bernardino is constructed of unreinforced
masonry, shall post in a conspicuous place at the entrance of said building, on a sign not less than
5" x 7" the following statement, pursuant to Government Code Section 8875.8, printed in not less
than 30-point bold type:
This is an unreinforced masonry building. Unreinforced masonry
buildings may be unsafe in the event of a major earthquake.
B. Pursuant to Government Code Section 8875.9, this section shall not apply to
unreinforced masonry construction if the walls are nonload bearing with steel or concrete frame.
C. Section 15.74.010 ofthe San Bernardino Municipal Code shall not apply to any
violation of this section."
