HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-038 . . . 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 2003-38 RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO ADOPTING THE MISSION STATEMENT FOR A COALITION OF ORGANIZED LABOR AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS WITHIN THE INLAND EMPIRE CREATED UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES GRASSROOTS EFFORT FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROTECTING LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICES AND REVENUES. WHEREAS, the City desires to support the League of California Cities in its efforts to protect local government revenue streams; and WHEREAS, the League of California Cities under the auspices of its grassroots' movement has formed a coalition of concemed community business and elected leaders known as the "Leave Our Community Assets Local" (LOCAL); and WHEREAS, the "LOCAL" coalition has become an important voice in state government to voice concerns over the erosion of local services because of the loss of local revenue streams; and WHEREAS, the grassroots movement is asking organized labor groups to become involved in the effort to protect local services and revenue streams; and WHEREAS, organized labor leaders have expressed a genuine interest in becoming involved in the effort to protect local government services and revenue streams; and WHEREAS, this coalition of Organized Labor and Local Governments has asked for support and endorsement of a proposed "mission" statement: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. In an effort to show support for the City Leader ILabor Leader Coalition, the City of San Bernardino approves the following language: Organized Labor and Local Governments agree to work together with other advocates to lobby California State Government to protect local government services and revenues, and jobs with fair wages and benefits. Together we recognize the importance of maintaining local revenue streams to preserve and create good paying jobs and promote economic growth while continuing to provide basic services and protect the quality of life for our communities. As partners, we will remain united to support issues of mutual interest.
