HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-0791 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 2004-79 RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO NAMING THE VERDEMONT FIRE STATION IN MEMORY OF FORMER COUNCILMAN JERRY M. DEVLIN. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City of San Bernardino will open Fire Station #232, also known as the Verdemont Fire Station, at 6055 North Palm Avenue in January 2005, making it the City's 12`h fire station. The fire station will be a state-of-the-art facility and will provide service for many generations to come. SECTION 2. Jerry M. Devlin served as the Council member representing the Fifth Ward from September 1993 until he passed away on July 12, 1999. Former Councilman Devlin was born in San Bernardino, attended local elementary schools, St. Bemardine's High School, San Bernardino Valley College, and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from California State University San Bernardino. Prior to being elected as the Fifth Ward Council member, Jerry Devlin worked for the San Bernardino Police Department and retired as a lieutenant on August 20, 1993 after 28 years of loyal service. Throughout his life, former Councilman Devlin had a consummate and passionate devotion to his city, his country, and his faith. His contributions to public service were evident in his labors with Newmark Little League, Mary's Table, Rotary Breakfast Club, Soap Box Derby, and his steadfast determination to improve the quality of life for the constituents he served. One of former Councilman Devlin's goals was to see the establishment of a new fire station to serve the rapidly growing ward he represented. SECTION 3. Former Councilman Devlin's dream of having anew fire station built in the Fifth Ward will be realized in January 2005. To honor the memory of former Councilman Jerry M. Devlin and the numerous contributions he made to the City he loved so much, the Mayor and Members of the Common Council do hereby name the City's newest fire station at 6055 North Palm Avenue the JERRY M.
